Parents Work Club

Coworking. Childcare. Community.

message from the founder

When a woman becomes a mother, her identity changes and priorities shift. We must recalibrate ourselves amongst being a mother, a partner, a professional and all the other roles we hold. When it comes to motherhood and our professional careers, there is no easy solution how to thrive at both at the same time.

With the Heinsch House, we redefine work-life balance for new parents, especially new moms, by providing not only the setup to be physically close to your child while also being able to focus on your professional career, but also by providing the platform to connect with other parents who are in the same season of life.

Mental health is important. Our concept allows our members to thrive personally and professionally all while being part of a community of like-minded peers. No mom-guilt, no isolation, no missing out on career opportunities. They say it takes a village to raise a child. With the Heinsch House, we bring the village to the city.

Coworking

We developed this concept to allow moms to focus on their career while having the peace of mind that their little one is only a few feet away.

Our coworking space provides an inviting, professional environment where you can be productive and connect with other new parents who are in the same season of life.

We offer two open office rooms, one private office for meetings and calls, amenities such as high-speed internet, printer, and office equipment, and of course, there is bottomless coffee. We also have a lounge area to socialize, nurse and a free library.

Our Kids Zone is adjacent to the coworking space which allows you to always be within reach of your child. Be present, get work done, and – also important – skip the daycare pickup and save valuable time in Atlanta traffic.

We host events around motherhood, child development, career, community, mental health, fitness, and others. Follow us on Instagram and check our Events section to stay posted!

montessori

Age O - 5

Groups of 10

Staff:child 1:5

In our Montessori inspired Kids Zone, your child is part of a mixed age group with a maximum of 10 children, ranging in age between 0 and 5 years old, with a staff to child ratio of 1:5.

We offer different play areas where the children can choose what they would like to explore and what they want to spend their time on and with whom. These areas are: a play gym, a play kitchen with baking and cooking equipment, a cozy relaxation and reading nook, an arts and crafts corner with materials to explore textures and colors, a seating area for games such as memory, puzzles etc., a snack area, and a large open play area with space to be creative with lego duplo, building blocks, building a train track, experiment with instruments or explore our other materials that spark curiosity and discovery. Following the Montessori philosophy, we generally focus on materials that are made of natural resources that challenge your child’s cognitive and motoric skills and refrain from battery-operated toys.

In addition, we add or switch out materials based on the season or special themes to allow for fun learning experiences that address our different senses and relate to our environment.

We emphasize free play and provide space for your child to take initiative and live out their own ideas and strengths. By letting the children take the lead, we encourage curiosity, independence, and creative problem-solving while learning from and respecting each other as part of one group. When children choose their tasks and shape their experiences themselves, these moments become sustainable learning processes where even the smallest success can be a huge motivator to keep wanting to learn new things. The children will gain confidence in their own abilities, learn that sometimes it can take time and patience to get the result we aim for, and they will develop an optimistic mindset towards new challenges. We, as caretakers, see our role as a guiding anchor who accompany your children during their learning journey. We stress observation over intervention and offering support over doing the task for the child.

Montessori

We follow the Montessori pedagogy which is a pedagogy that is focused on each child’s individuality and the ideal learning environment for it to thrive in. Dr. Maria Montessori (1870-1952) was an Italian anthropologist, psychologist, and pediatrician. It was her life’s work to develop this pedagogy, which is now, more than 100 years later, practiced worldwide. Maria Montessori developed principles how to implement her pedagogy, for example, by using materials that are made of natural resources and invite to open-end creative play, the core, however, lies in its mindset how we see our children, our role as adults as we accompany them growing up and how to enable them to become the persons they already are.

Some of the main Montessori principles are:

✨ Help me to do it myself – Montessori education emphasizes the importance of fostering a child’s self-confidence and belief in their own abilities.

✨ Environment – The environment is designed to promote independence and self-directed learning, allowing children to make choices and engage in activities that match their individual interests and developmental needs. This allows children to explore and learn at their own pace while fostering their natural curiosity and love for learning.

✨ Heterogenous Groups – While Montessori education stresses independent learning, it also recognizes the value of collaboration and teamwork. Children work in heterogeneous groups, which means they interact with peers of different ages and abilities. This arrangement promotes social skills such as respect, fairness, responsibility, and empathy.

✨ Educators – While allowing the child to take the lead, caregivers serve as guiding anchors and role models, supporting children as they navigate their learning journey. Through carefully chosen tasks and materials, our educators provide opportunities for children to experience success in their learning, which boosts their self-esteem and motivates them to continue exploring and challenging themselves.

"Grandparenting" Volunteers

At the Heinsch House, we offer senior citizens the opportunity to volunteer at our childcare program. Our caregivers work together with senior volunteers to engage in activities such as storytelling, arts and crafts projects, music, gardening, or playtime.

By providing a multi-generational environment, we aim to enable mutual learning experiences between seniors and children. This “grandparenting” concept fosters meaningful relationships between children and seniors and cultivates a sense of community and inclusivity. By engaging with the older generation, our children enjoy comfort, care and wisdom, and develop social skills such as empathy, respect, and consideration for others’ needs and perspectives. Seniors can experience a renewed sense of purpose, maintain their vitality and connect to the younger generation.

A Comprehensive Background Check is required of every volunteer.

Moms On-site

While the little ones have fun and get to socialize with their peers, their moms work in the adjacent office space. This comes with several benefits such as “gentle weaning” when adjusting to a new environment away from the child’s primary caretaker(s), mom can nurse if desired, and separation time can be reduced according to the family’s needs.

Senior Volunteering

Building bridges across generations is one of our core values.

Through our volunteer program, we offer senior citizens, who seek a new meaningful task, who want to stay physically and mentally active or who simply enjoy being around children and would like to give back, the opportunity to do exactly that.

What You'll Do as a Volunteer

What others say

The Heinsch House has been a lifesaver in many ways! I love the flexibility of being able to have childcare without committing to an all day daycare which would limit my ability to exclusively breastfeed. The smaller group environment is the best of both worlds for socializing my daughter while still being able to have more one-on-one attention. She struggled a lot with separation anxiety at first and both the owner Selina and the caretaker Liz were really understanding. The working space is also beautiful and the community of other parents is so valuable in a way i didn’t anticipate. Being able to chat through things we’re all experiencing has been amazing! – Andi D.

Heinsch House has been an excellent experience for myself and my son, 2 years old. We came while navigating a temporary childcare gap, and we have stayed for the community! We love the beautiful setting, the warmth of Selina and team, and the socialization across ages that our son gets. Further, I have loved the opportunity to connect with other parents working across a variety of industries and  in different stages of early parenthood. It really is special and unique! – Amanda C.

As a working mom with a 5 month old child, Heinsch House has been a game-changer! The coworking space is perfect for productivity, while the adjacent kids zone room lets me stay close to my baby. They also have a new gated outdoor play area. Great amenities, staff and friendly atmosphere. Highly recommend! – Avery K.

The Heinsch House is such a needed childcare option. As a first time mom, I had no idea where to even begin with childcare, especially when only working part time. Selina and team provided a great option with parents being onsite but having trust worthy people caring for your child. I would recommend the Heinsch House to all parents. – Chase B.

I love the Heinsch House! I am a new mom to a 6 month old baby and I work for myself. I don’t want to stop working but I also don’t want to have the pressure of paying for full-time daycare, so the HH has been a great solution for us. I love that I can sign up and go when I really need to get some work done and know that my babe is safe in the next room to me. It’s truly a great business idea and we need more spaces like it to support moms and parents. – Elaine S.

I’ve been bringing my son to Heinsch House for a couple of months now and it’s been such a game changer as a self-employed parent. The space is so lovely, the kids all have a great time, and it’s so nice to meet other parents in the neighborhood. Such a brilliant concept and I’m so happy it exists just a few minutes away! – Brittany W.

motivation

Having a family in the U.S. is pretty much a private affair. Affordable childcare supply and the continuous decline of women in workforce are prevailing issues in the United States, whose government has not yet recognized the importance of guaranteed paid parental leave. It leaves mothers having to return to their full-time job within months or sometimes even weeks after giving birth and miss out on important bonding time with their child. Or, on the other side, women leave their job to be a present mom or because they can’t afford daycare. (On average, an American family pays $1,250 per month on childcare.) Instead of having to decide between either family or career, we want to offer families, especially women, a solution that allows them to thrive at both.

Besides the financial and emotional aspects, we also want to address a mental component. Throughout the Covid-19 pandemic, we have learned how important it is to support each other and how damaging isolation can be to our mental health. It is a core value of our concept to not only provide a platform for working moms but to connect communities and bring generations together who would otherwise have minimal interferences in our daily lives. Especially in the city, young parents are often on their own without having their extended family around. Let’s think out of the box and create the ‘grandparenting’ experience through childcare volunteering for seniors.

Finally, remote work and flexible work schedules are not only en vogue but incredibly impactful when it comes to improving work life balance. We are all for it and have designed inviting coworking spaces for working moms not only to connect with peers but also to separate from the daily distractions and stay focused.
